Maui Humane Society supports pets injured and displaced in the fires
MAUI, HI, September 02, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ — In response to the devastating Maui wildfires, the Dave & Cheryl Duffield Foundation has granted Maui Humane Society $2,000,000 to assist with animal fire relief efforts. The funds will be used to support pets who were injured and displaced in the fires.
Maui Humane Society (MHS) announced that $1,000,000 has been pledged as a match to their current Facebook fundraiser to help meet its $1,000,000 goal. “We are astounded by the continued generosity of the Dave & Cheryl Duffield Foundation and are grateful for their life-saving support. We have just $250,000 left to raise in order to fully utilize this amazing million-dollar match that will allow us to help so many more animals in need,” stated MHS CEO Dr. Lisa Labrecque.
The Dave & Cheryl Duffield Foundation will also be providing support to all Maui Humane Society staff and volunteers who have worked tirelessly over the past three weeks to reunite pets and respond to the disaster. “Our thoughts are with the community of Maui. We stand with Maui Humane Society and are committed to supporting long-term recovery efforts to help impacted animals and their families,” said Jim Dugdale, Executive Director of the Dave & Cheryl Duffield Foundation.
Funds will be used to support the impacted community through the development of an outreach program for those local community members and pets impacted by the fire which will include providing pet food, supplies and medical care as needed. A program liaison will assist families who need help flying pets off island, temporary boarding, and any other support. Maui Humane Society estimates that over 3000 pets have been impacted by the fire.
Pet owners in need of support can pick up food and supplies from Maui Humane Society’s shelter at 1350 Mehameha Loop in Pu’unene between 11 am – 5 pm, 7 days a week. For additional support or inquiries, contact [email protected].
