PHOENIX, AZ, February 14, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ — John Florez began his career in the late 1960’s as a Los Angeles record producer. His production of the Hues Corporation’s “Rock the Boat” for RCA Records has since been credited as a pivotal record that helped launch the disco music trend in 1974.

Throughout his career, one out of every three songs Florez produced was nationally charted. Among his other successes were the RIAA certified gold hits, “Grazin’ in the Grass” #3 (U.S. Hot 100 Billboard single) and “Going In Circles” #3 (U.S. Billboard Hot Soul Singles) by The Friends of Distinction. His clients included: A&M, Arista, Capitol, CBS, Elektra, Playboy, RCA, Talent Associates and Warner Brothers Records. After a decade of successful productions, John Florez retired from the record business in the 1980’s.

Thirty-five years ago Florez declared he’d never produce another record. But that changed.

In 2021 his friend and former partner, Bobby Brooks, a 78 year old Alabama singer-songwriter, sent Florez a three instrument song demo of Brooks’ new original tune, “Shine On!”, with uplifting lyrics offering today’s world a glimpse of much-needed hope and positivity.

Fast forward to 2022: John Florez and a group of fellow Septuagenarians have now transformed Brooks’ simple song demo into what Florez feels is possibly a hit record, featuring BG vocals, a horn section, guitars, a tenor sax solo, assorted percussion instruments, and contemporary eq + compression. Ray Cork, Jr., who arranged Florez’ previous gold records, “Grazin’ in the Grass” and “Going in Circles” at RCA in 1968, composed the horn charts.

Bobby Brooks (BMI), has written over 200 songs and would eventually like to have a music publisher representing him. He is still writing new songs every day.

Bobby Brooks is a decorated, disabled Vietnam War veteran and a retired Officer for the US Army Space and Missile Defense Command (USASMDC). He is well-known for writing and recording his Alabama tribute song, “Huntsville Lights”.
