Jacksonville Entrpereneur Cheikh Mboup Provides Funding for Single Mothers

JACKSONVILLE, FL, November 02, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ — The Cheikh Mboup Scholarship for Single Mothers is now accepting applications for its inaugural $1,000 scholarship award. The one-time scholarship aims to support single mothers in Jacksonville and surrounding areas who are currently enrolled or planning to enroll in higher education. The deadline to apply is November 15, 2023.

Established by respected academic and entrepreneur Cheikh Mboup, the scholarship will be awarded based on a 1,000 word essay answering the question, “What inspired you to pursue higher education as a single mother, and how will receiving the Cheikh Mboup Scholarship support your academic and career goals?”

“As someone who has built my career in education and business, I understand first-hand how earning a degree can open doors and change the trajectory of one’s life,” said Mboup. “However, as a single mother, pursuing higher education also comes with significant challenges and barriers. I started this scholarship to alleviate some of the financial burden so more single mothers can achieve their academic dreams.”

Mboup’s own educational journey has spanned three continents. Originally from Senegal, West Africa, he came to the U.S. and graduated summa cum laude from Lehigh University. He went on to earn an MBA from Jacksonville University and a doctorate from Argosy University.

As an academic and entrepreneur, Cheikh Mboup has always prioritized education and social responsibility. He believes education is the key to breaking the cycle of poverty and empowering families and communities. The Cheikh Mboup Scholarship for Single Mothers aligns with his mission to widen access to education.

Ideal applicants include single mothers currently enrolled in or accepted to a college or university, community college, vocational or trade school. The scholarship is open to undergraduates, graduate students and those entering higher education. Fields and majors of study are unrestricted.

The winner will be announced December 15, 2023 and receive a $1,000 award to cover educational expenses.

To be eligible, applicants must meet the following criteria:
• Current single mother or pregnant single mother
• U.S. citizen or permanent resident
• Accepted or enrolled in an accredited college, university, community college or vocational school for the 2023-2024 school year
